When you finally buy a piece of land for your Fruit Homestead, a lot of huge tasks suddenly become due all at once:

-You’ll need (at least a basic) living structure.
-Roads and paths must be built for access.
-Rainwater and drinking water systems are essential.
-Other infrastructure development may be necessary.
-Quick-yielding plants should be planted as soon as possible. Check our Video: Top 5 Fastest Producing Tropical Plants
-Your main trees should go into the ground early to start the countdown to fruiting.
-Those trees will require support plants for mulching, shade, and other needs.

Instead of thinking, “We’ll just buy land, move in, and build and plant,” you need a plan to prioritize tasks based on your needs and resources.

For example, when we bought our property, we had to plant the large trees we already had in the first year, and it was already late in the planting season. So, we set up temporary structures, slept in tents, and focused our efforts on planting as much as possible in the first few months. Building our house came later, and it was challenging to sacrifice comfort during that time.

Staging the planting can help—divide your land into sections and plant over several years. Alternatively, you could delay building by renting nearby, if available. Outsourcing is another option: if you have reliable partners, you can hire them to manage some aspects of settling in, making the process less overwhelming.

What do you think?

I think it is important to define what is more suitable for you and your family:
1. Moving in immediately and have a step-by-step plan that provides basic comfort AND empathizes planting in a sustainable way
2. Considering doing the planting and constructing from a location where your needs are met and you can focus on the success of your project or working on financing while the trees are already growing
