Mira's full permaculture design for a tropical fruit orchard home for a fruit-loving family, featuring a thoughtful water system, zone planning, and carefully selected fruit trees for abundant, year-round harvests.
Mira Fruta’s book ‘Fruit Homestead: Permaculture for a Fruit-Based Family’ made me cry in joy that a family is following their dream to raise their children in total health, freedom and happiness… spending their days together growing a fruit forest, homeschooling and homesteading. I absolutely love this book and the beautiful support Mira and Zoli have for each other and for their children’s health…physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
The plans for fruit-growing and thriving on their land in Costa Rica are very well thought out and will lay the framework for other families who are ready to take their lives into their own hands. I’m blessed to know this beautiful family and only could have dreamed of the life that Mira and Zoli are creating.

In her inspirational book, ‘Fruit Homestead: Permaculture for a Fruit-Based Family’, Mira Fruta gives a very through and innovative blueprint for sustainable raw vegan family life in the tropics.
It is beautiful how this book embrace creating a home and garden where the needs of all family members are important. Building nature friendly and exciting family friendly spaces that will embrace the changing needs of a growing family is so wonderful.
If you have ever dreamed of relocating to an area that better meets the needs of your fruit-based diet and lifestyle then Mira’s book makes essential reading. It gives very detailed planning for a family with children, who wish to relocate to the tropics and work towards self sufficiency.
Every step and detail is incredibly well thought out and explained: trees, plants, buildings, garden growth and development over time, water management, and soil nutrition are all covered in great detail; yet in a way that is easy to understand.
Mira’s diagrams are also very clear and well executed.
I highly recommend Mira’s book as a solid starting point for anyone who dreams of creating their own peaceful and self sufficient home and garden, where their every need is beautifully and environmentally met.

This book offers a glimpse into a life that's simple, fulfilling, and joyful. I want to open doors to a way of living that frees us, roots us, and brings true happiness while enriching Nature and our Earth
I crafted the design in this book for a raw vegan family who chose to transform their lives by moving to the tropics to grow their own food and nurture their children in a natural environment.
This design was developed for a property in our neighborhood, where we establish our Fruit Village with like-minded fruit-based families.
The whole book is fully supported by my husband, Zoli Durian. He edited my design drawings. We do everything together, and our strong marriage is the foundation of all our work.
I wish for every family to create their version of Paradise where they can enjoy a rich family life and raise children who are healthy, balanced, and content.

Discover Permaculture FDE Team Review:
Content Mastery
An excellent grasp of the course content is demonstrated. Watching this site evolve and sharing in the journey would be greatly enjoyable.
Soundness of Design
This design functions very well with the existing landform and fulfills the client’s requirements. You communicated the design details clearly, and the proposed design fits the context of the site and the client’s goals. Great work!
Diagrams/Graphics
Thank you for taking the time to create such excellent graphics. They are clear, straightforward, and most importantly, easy to read and understand. We look forward to seeing your future work as well, as we’re certain it will be excellent. We may use your drawings in future cohorts as good examples of clean and readable maps.
Species List
Extravagantly thorough and well-thought-out species list. Thank you for investing the time.
Permaculture Ethic
You did a great job focusing your design on the social considerations of the clients, namely the children. Including gardens and activities for them was an excellent demonstration of the people care ethic. Nicely done.
Permaculture Philosophy:
Over and over again in your writing, you illustrate how your mindset (and the permaculture philosophy) is so important to how we approach good design. Thank you for demonstrating so clearly that the message we are trying to spread is coming through loud and clear.
